Whitening toothpaste with clay and charcoal

Whitening toothpaste with clay and charcoal

Hello my dear readers! 🙂

Since a couple of years I’ve been using mostly natural cosmetics and oils for my personal care routine. I’ve been thinking a lot about creating a home made whitening toothpaste since I haven’t found a lot of natural products for oral hygiene. After a lot of testing I came up with this amazing all natural recipe.

I’ve been using this toothpaste for 2 months now and I must say I am pretty amused by the results. First of all, my gums have never been happier. I had problems with bleeding and irritated gums because of the aggressive commercial toothpastes.

This summer I decided that instead of going to the dentist for teeth cleaning (I go once a year), I will try to remove scale and tartar with natural remedies. It is not only cheaper, but also healthier for your enamel. I’m really surprised about the results; after 2 months of using my homemade toothpaste the scale and tartar are just dissolving and disappearing. It is because of the coconut oil that “melts” the scale, all the other ingredients also help dissolve it and whiten the teeth. My teeth are white and gums healthy. I think…let’s say I’m almost sure I will never have to go to the dentist for teeth cleaning again.

One more thing: please don’t forget to rinse the sink with hot water when you wash your teeth. Because of the grease in the coconut oil your sink might clog.

Try this amazing recipe, leave a comment or ask a question. I will be happy to hear your comments and thoughts. If you have a special recipe with our flavours, please don’t hesitate to contact me. We will be happy to post it in our blog 🙂

Whitening toothpaste with clay and charcoal

Ingredients

  • Charcoal powder (2 tea spoons)
  • Clay powder (2 tea spoons)
  • Coconut oil (approx. 200ml)
  • Xylitol in powder (2 tea spoons)
  • Baking soda – sodium bicarbonate (half tea spoon)
  • Vapenatura Peppermint flavour
  • Glass jar
  • Wooden or ceramic spoon

Why this ingredients?

Charcoal adsorbs impurities and whitens your teeth.

Clay has the ability to absorb toxins, impurities, heavy metals and other internal contaminants; it is alkaline and full of minerals.

Coconut oil is great at fighting plaque and bacteria. The grease also prevents the plaque and scale to stick to your teeth. Coconut oil also nourishes your gums and is not aggressive like normal toothpaste.

Xylitol is a natural sweetener that helps keep a neutral pH level in the mouth and prevents bacteria from sticking to the teeth.

Peppermint freshens your breath and has antiseptic, antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

Sodium bicarbonate has anti caries and abrasive properties. It works as a mechanical cleanser on the teeth and gums, neutralizes the production of acid in the mouth, and acts as an antiseptic to help prevent infections. It whitens your teeth and removes scale. It prevents bad smell.

Instructions

Melt the coconut oil and mix the ingredients in a bowl or jar until you get a paste. You can adjust the recipe up and down with quantities. Do not add a lot of baking soda because it is more aggressive than other ingredients (you can also skip it if it burns or just add half a tea spoon). Do NOT let it get into contact with metal, so use ceramic or wooden spoon. The negative charge of the ions in the clay will act as a magnet to the positive ions in the metal and cause your clay to become kind of toxic. Put your whitening toothpaste with clay and charcoal in a nice glass jar and mix it every 15minutes until hard so the ingredients mix well. Put it in the shelf in your bathroom and smile 🙂 Remember to keep it in the fridge during summer!

You can also make Natural mouthwash: mix distilled water with baking soda, add a few drops of Vapenatura Peppermint and your natural (and very cheap) mouthwash is ready.
